A Good Easy Outside Remodel Idea

Hens and chicks? Chicks n Hens? I forget exactly what the proper name. They are wonderful little succulents that grow well in Oregon.  They grow well on rock walls and seeming impossible places. These plants spread rapidly (or semi-rapidly-ish)  on their own.   These little plants fractal out from the center like a lotus flower. Making them wonderful for the eye and budget as “sprucing up” ideas for the outside of your home.   The shape and beauty of the little cousin of a cactus is the reason why I refer to them as the Lotus of the Pacific NW.

Do you have an ugly rock wall, or something in your yard that could use a little green? Are you in the situation where you don’t even have a dime? These plants should still be able to get a good patch of beauty going. You will see these plants growing on walls or near the sidewalk when walking around the neighborhoods in SE Portland, Aloha, Beaverton, and Forest Grove .

I’m not suggesting you steal. I’m suggesting that you help one of the surrounding plants by giving it a little more room to grow. While you are at it, you may as well do the right thing and plant the little guy that you uprooted in your own yard.  See, everybody wins! If you do this 5 or ten times and plant them, in a year or two your eyesore will look like the picture above.   That’s all the easy DIY Remodel tips for now.
